The legend of the festival Dhanteras states that once a queen saved the life of her husband with her smartness and will. There was prince who was cursed that he will die on the fourth day after his marriage. His wife didnt let him sleep the whole night. She made a plan to divert the mind of the Yamraj. She took out all her jewellery and kept it at the entrance with some lamps. The shining jewellery and the light of the lamps disturbed the Yamraj and he struggled in order to enter the room in his snake form. Then he got amazed by the beautiful voice coming from inside and the melodious voice of queens song kept the Yamraj engaged for the entire night. This way the queen became successful in saving the life of her husband. Since that day Dhanteras is being celebrated. Though there are some other legends too that are associated with the festival Dhanteras but this one is the most trusted one.
