Basant Panchami 2016 is going to be celebrated on 12th February. It is the festival of wisdom with beauty. As per Hindu calendar, every year Basant Panchami falls on the fifth day of Magh month's Shukla Paksha. Therefore, Vasant Panchami in 2016 will also fall as per the same. People worship God with yellow flowers, yellow powder, holy water, incense sticks, lamp and some other allied stuff. Legend Behind Commemorating Goddess Saraswati on Basant Panchami
As per Hindu mythology, a legend describes that Lord Brahma created the universe with the permission of Lord Vishnu. When the universe was created, he got troubled to see that there is no sound and everything is gloomy. In order to make the world cheerful, he took some holy water out of his stoup in one hand and sprinkled over the Earth. From the droplets of that holy water, a divine power generated, which had a lute in one hand and Varad pose in other. And, amongst the other two hands, one had book and other had rosary. She was a Goddess. After that, Lord Brahma requested the Goddess to play the lute. As soon as the lute began, all the organisms on Earth got voice. This created an ambience of fun everywhere. Then Lord Brahma named her Goddess of Voice, Saraswati. This day was the fifth day of the Magh month's Shukla Paksha. Since then, this day is being celebrated as Basant Panchami.
Logic Behind Worshipping Radha-Krishna on Vasant Panchami
Basant Panchami is the welcoming day of the spring (Vasant) season. In this time, Earth starts decorating itself with new buds of flowers, new leaves, different organisms start coming out and everybody start feeling beautiful with an overwhelming atmosphere. That is why Lord Krishna has designated this festival as the King of festivals. Lord of Vasant (spring season) is Lord Krishna. And, Radha always named before Lord Krishna.
