Namkaran Ceremony Muhurat 2015: Procedure To Carry Out Baby Naming Ceremony

Namkaran Sanskar is sacred and significant and hence, is done under the supervision of a priest. It is generally done on the twelfth day after the baby is born. The baby is bathed and dressed in new clothes. Father of the newborn sits by taking the baby in his lap and whispers the chosen name in the ear of the baby. Name is whispered using Kusha grass or betel leaf. Once this is done, all the relatives and friends bless the baby and feed the baby with honey or sugar.

Namkaran Sanskar is performed either in a temple or at home. Hawan is conducted and prayers are offered to Agni Deva (lord of fire), ancestors and Pancha Bhootas (five elements). This is done to protect the bay from evils and negativity.
