There are more than one legend related to this festival of Lord Ganesha. One of the Legends tells that Lord Ganesha is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Goddess Parvati created Ganesha from the paste of sandalwood to safeguard her by making Ganesha stand out of the door while she bathed. As Ganesha was not aware of Lord Shiva, he didn't allow him to enter the home. At this, Lord Shiva got furious and detached the head of Ganesha to enter his home. But as soon as Lord Shiva came to know the truth, he granted an elephant head to Ganesh and since then he is known as the elephant headed god and is worshipped before all auspicious events. Another important legend says that once Ganpati while riding on his mouse fell suddenly and heard a laughing voice of moon. Lord Ganesha felt insulted and cursed the moon due to which tradition of not looking at moon on Ganesh Chaturthi came into existence and is followed by all Hindus till now. The legend teaches us to part ways from people who do not respect the wisdom of God. Stay happy and let all people around you stay happy and keep on chanting "Ganpati Bappa Morya" this festive season.
