History Of New Year
There are different countries across the globe including America where 01 January is celebrated as the New Year. The tradition of the New Year celebration is very old and it started on 15 October 1582. In this connection, the first person to make changes in the Roman calendar was Roman king Numa Pompilus, who considered January as the first month of the year. Earlier, the month of March was considered the start of the year and was also considered the first month of the year. As per that specific calendar, there were only ten months in a year, and the number of days in a year was considered 310 days, and in a week there were a total of eight days.
The belief is that Roman ruler Julius Caesar from 01 January started the new year. After consultation with the astronomers, Julius Caesar gained the knowledge of earth revolving around the sun in 365 days and 6 hours. Taking this into consideration, he modified the calendar to 365 days instead of 310 days, and in the Julian calendar, 12 months were introduced in place of 10 months in a year.
