History of Christianity
As per the Holy Bible, after 50 days of the death of Jesus Christ, the first Church was established on the day of Pentecost. There is a belief that the holy spirit descended on the Christians on this very day.
Earlier, most of the Christians were Jewish and the Church was built in Jerusalem. Later, many non-Jews also adopted the path of Christianity. Christians considered their duty to spread Christianity and its teachings. One of the most important missionaries was the apostle Paul, commonly known as Saint Paul, who spread the teachings of Jesus Christ.
After having a supernatural meeting with Christ, Paul converted into Christianity and there is a mention about it in Acts of the Apostles. Paul spread the teachings of Christ and established churches throughout the Roman Empire, Europe, and Africa. It is believed that If Paul had not put in his best efforts, Christianity would not have captured large sections of the world. Apart from this, he wrote 13 out of the 27 books in the new testament.
Christian Festivals & Events in 2022
Candlemas: The ritual reminds us of the purification of Mary, the mother of Jesus, as well as the presentation of Child Jesus in the temple at Jerusalem. It is observed 40 days after the birth of Jesus Christ. The Gospel of Luke says that Jesus was met by Anna and Simeon. Simeon held the baby Jesus and called him a Light to the World. As per the prevailing Jewish tradition, a woman is considered to be unclean after giving birth to a child. After 40 days, she is brought to the temple where the purifying ceremony takes place and she is allowed to take part in religious ceremonies. On Candlemas night, candles are lit in all churches and many people put lit candles at their windows to scare away evil spirits. This is said to be one of the most famous Christian Holidays in 2022.
Epiphany: The day of Epiphany is very significant in Christianity and counted as one of the top 2022 Christian Holidays in India as well as the world as Jesus was baptized by John, the Baptist, on this very day. It is also celebrated as Jesus’ Birthday. Good Friday: It is the day when Lord Jesus was crucified and at the initial stages, this day was marked as a sorrowful Friday. Later on, it was realized that his crucifixion was to save the people from their sins and therefore, the day was termed as ‘Good Friday’.
Easter: Easter falls on April 17 as per Christian Calendar 2022 and marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ and it is celebrated on the third day after the crucifixion. It is celebrated with great pomp and show. All the churches are decorated with flowers and different hymns and songs are sung etc. The story associated with Easter Day is the soul of Christianity. On Good Friday, Jesus was crucified and buried in a cave. The entrance was blocked completely so that nobody could steal his dead body. On the following Sunday, some women visited the graveyard and found that the stone was missing and the grave was empty. After that, Jesus was seen by many people, and his followers believed that he was raised from the dead by the miracle of God.
