Hazrat Ali Jayanti
Hazrat Ali Jayanti has been announced as a restricted public holiday by the UP Government and is one of the main UP Govt Holiday List 2020. This day commemorates the birth of Hazrat Ali, the son-in-law and cousin brother of the Prophet Mohammed. He is remembered for his utter devotion towards his faith and liberal thoughts. Ganga Dussehra
According to List of Holidays 2020 in UP, The festival of Ganga Dussehra commemorates the descent of the holy Ganga on Earth and falls on the tenth day or Dashami during the Hindu month Jyestha and Shukla Paksha as per the Hindu Panchang. This festival stretches up to ten days, and is considered an auspicious period to wash off your sins. Varanasi, Garhmukteshwar, and Prayagraj are considered the major locations where grand celebrations are conducted. Devotees perform the Ganga Aarti at the ghats and take a sacred dip to purify the body. At the Dashashwamedh Ghat, Varanasi, the ritual of deep daan (offering diyas) is performed.
Barsana Holi
According to UP Govt Holiday List 2020, Barsana Holi, famously known as Lathmar Holi all over India, is celebrated with great fanfare and excitement at Barsana, located in the district of Mathura. On the day of Lathmar Holi, people engage in playful activities, where men sing songs and women chase them away with Latthis or bamboo sticks, hence the name. This festival is dedicated to Lord Krishna and Radha. People apply colours and play with coloured water. A special drink called Thandai, sometimes mixed with the paste of Bhang (cannabis), is prepared by the locals and shared together.
Agrasen Jayanti
Agrasen Jayanti has been declared a public holiday by the Government of Uttar Pradesh and is observed by Agraharis, Aggarwals, Hindus, and Jains. This day signifies the birth anniversary of Maharaja Agrasen. As per the Hindu Panchang, this day falls during the Hindu month Ashwin on the fourth day. Rallies and colourful processions are carried out on the streets and programmes are conducted. The descendants of the King perform charitable activities and make donations and honour King Agrasen by following in his footsteps.
