Tripura Government Calendar 2020

Garia Puja
During Garia Puja, the deity of wealth and livestock, Lord Garia, is worshipped with great devotion by tribals of Tripura. This day falls during the Hindu month of Vaishakh on the seventh day. A bamboo pole is erected in the middle and adorned with garlands and flowers. This pole is said to represent Baba Garia. Then, puja is conducted, where ingredients used are rice, rice beer, eggs, earthen pot, wine, cotton thread and fowl chick. The fowl chick is traditionally sacrificed before Lord Garia and its blood is scattered for purification. Kids dance before the Lord, play musical instruments and make merriment.

Kharchi Puja
Kharchi puja marks the initiation of the week-long festival where fourteen Gods are venerated. A grand puja is organized at the temple located in Agartala. This puja signifies the purification of the Mother Earth after her period of menstruation, also known as Ama Pechi. On this occasion, all 14 deities are carried out while the the chief priest or Chantai chants the mantras. After this, they are bathed in the Saidra river, taken back inside and decorated with flowers and vermilion.
Ker Puja
Ker Puja, as per the cultural belief, is performed by the royal family of the state for the welfare of the State and people within the palace. It begins two weeks after Kharchi Puja and honours the guardian of Lord Vastu, Ker. Halam tribe is required to participate in this festival. During this time, holy sacrifices and offerings are made, a safe boundary is formed which is said to protect the [people from any kind of disaster or calamity. Participants, i.e. royal family members and tribal people, are prohibited from dancing, singing, lighting a fire or wearing shoes.
World Disabled Day
World Disability Day promotes empowerment of the disabled sector and mobilizing support for their well-being, dignity and growth. This day aims at creating awareness about the reasons of disability, how to overcome it and prevent discrimination in the social, professional and cultural platform. This day is celebrated with great enthusiasm in the state of Tripura and awareness rallies are carried out.
