Stock Market Timings in India
Timings for both Bombay Stock Exchange or BSE & National Stock Exchange or NSE are same. Equity trading takes place five days a week except Saturdays, Sundays and Trading holidays mentioned above. There are three major sessions:
- Pre-Opening Session: Between 9:00 AM to 9:15 AM, where you can place an order to sell, buy, modify or even cancel the stocks
- Normal Session: Between 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM, where you can purchase or sell stocks
- Post-Closing Session: Between 3:40 PM to 4:00 PM, where you can place an order to sell, buy or modify the stocks at the closing price.
Note: Stock Markets in India also follows a special session known as Muhurat Trading during Diwali.
Bombay Stock Exchange or BSE
Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) functions as one of the oldest Asian stock exchanges with a market capital of US$2.2 trillion approximately. The products under the BSE include market data products such as equities, derivatives and indices, EOD products and corporate data products. BSE provides a platform for buyers and sellers to trade equities, currency pairs and debt. Know the BSE Holidays in 2020 by referring to the above table.

National Stock Exchange or NSE
NSE or National Stock Exchange functions on weekdays from Monday to Friday and remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays. The market opens at 09:15 AM and closes at 3:30 PM. Products of NSE is divided into four parts,
- Capital Markets: Products under Capital Market include stocks, mutual funds, indices, exchange-traded funds and so on.
- Debt Instruments: Products under Debt Instruments include Corporate bonds and NSE EBP.
- Derivatives: Products under Derivatives include NSE bond futures, stock derivatives, currency derivatives etc.
- Trackers: Products under Trackers include Bank Nifty, India VIX, Overseas Indices etc.
