Sawan Somvar 2017 includes 5 Mondays in the month of Sawan. These 4 Savan Somvar days are considered to be the most auspicious and special of all Mondays of the year. To observe a fast on Sawan Somvar, devotees wake up early in the morning and take a bath. It is equally important to cleanse one's body and soul. A maligned heart is never suitable to perform any sort of a puja. All items, which are required to perform the puja are arranged in advance so that there are no interruptions during the puja. Bel patra, milk, curd, ghee, water, honey, kapur, Ganga jal is used in worshipping Lord Shiva. Shiva aarti is sung in the morning and in the evening. People fast all day long and chant hymns dedicated to Lord Shiva. These fasts are especially very fruitful to unmarried girls. It is believed that Lord Shiva helps them find a good and virtuous husband. Though there are many ways of worshiping the Lord Shiva, he gets pleased with the simplest acts of devotion and love.
